I am an experienced BACP registered and accredited counsellor and psychotherapist. I have been working with adolescents, adults, couples and families in the Guildford area for over seven years.
My degree is in Integrative Relational Counselling. This means I use a range of psychotherapeutic approaches and theories to support my work; using the collaborative relationship created, along with the issues brought to therapy, to inform the work. I am committed to building empathic, non-judgemental therapeutic relationships in which mutually agreed goals are worked towards.
I have particular interest and expertise in working with Eating Disorders, Self-Harm and Asperger’s in Women.
I offer consultation and support for parents, carers and partners of loved ones with mental health issues, recognising that the role of caring can be incredibly stressful.
Qualifications and Experience
- BA (Hons) – First Class in Integrative Relational Counselling – University of Middlesex
- Advanced Certificate in Counselling – Kingston College
- Diploma in Child Psychology – ICS
I have completed extensive further training at both Great Ormond Street and The Maudsley Hospital in London to enable me to use evidence based approaches with both adolescents and adults with eating disorders. I offer Family Based Treatment for Adolescents with Eating Disorders and an adapted version of FBT for young adults. I use MANTRA – Maudsley Anorexia Nervosa Treatment for Adults, primarily with adults but can also adapt this to use with older adolescents.
I have worked extensively with sufferers of Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder and OSFED (previously EDNOS).
I have a great deal of experience working with adolescents and adults who self-harm and women with either a professional or self-diagnosis of Asperger’s.
I undertake regular supervision with an experienced supervisor as stipulated by the BACP and undertake ongoing training to meet requirements for BACP accredited members. In recent years I have attended conferences, training and workshops covering FBT, MANTRA, Nutrition for Eating Disorders, working with groups, working with couples, Compassion Focused Therapy, Asperger’s in the consulting room and Neurobiology in Counselling.
In September 2016 I will begin training in RO-DBT, an evidence based treatment for disorders of over-control such as Anorexia, OCD, refractory depression, anxiety disorders and some personality disorders.
