Dr Farida Yousaf is a Consultant Psychiatrist with over twenty years experience in General Adult Psychiatry. She is working in NHS and private sector in Surrey. In the NHS she works in a Mental Health Recovery Team. In the private sector in addition to general adult psychiatry patients she has expertise in the treatment of alcohol and drug related disorders. Further Dr Yousaf works with an NGO Helen Bamber Foundation based in London where she assesses and prepares medico-legal reports for victim of torture seeking asylum in the UK.
Dr Yousaf has wide experience in education and management and has held posts in the NHS as a clinical tutor and a medical lead.
Her main areas of interest are Mood Disorders, Schizophrenia, Perinatal disorders, Eating Disorders, PTSD and Personality Disorders.
After obtaining her primary medical qualification (MBBS) in Pakistan in 1982, Dr Yousaf moved to England. She completed her basic and specialist psychiatric training at the St Georges Training Rotation Scheme during which she trained in General Adult Psychiatry, Drug and Alcohol Misuse, Eating Disorders and Sleep Disorders. She obtained MRCPsych in 1993. She received Specialist Registration with GMC in 1997 in General Adult Psychiatry and Substance Misuse. She was appointed as a consultant psychiatrist in 1997 in Surrey and has remained in this post with a variety of additional responsibilities over the years. In addition to her main post as a general adult psychiatrist, she has worked as a Consultant in Eating Disorders. She was the Continuing Professional Development Coordinator and also previously been appointed as the College Tutor. Dr Yousaf was heavily involved in implementing changes in training and education of junior doctors in her Trust. She was appointed Medical Lead in 2007 to 2010.
Dr Yousaf was nominated for and received Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 2008.
Dr Yousaf has received training in Psychotherapy, Group Therapy, Family Therapy and Cognitive Behaviour therapy.
She has a number of publications and was involved in research on sleep disorders and drug and alcohol disorders during her training years. She has presented nationally and internationally both posters and oral presentations.
In the private sector Yousaf has worked with Care UK as a Consultant Psychiatrist for Rehabilitation and in the Priory Hospitals as a general adult psychiatrist. Currently she sees patients in Leatherhead in a private clinic and is a consultant psychiatrist for a residential unit for drug and alcohol recovery.

Dr Yousaf is working with the Recovery model since 2011 and has a holistic approach with due emphasis on the physical well being of her patients.
Dr Yousaf will provide a confidential assessment in a relaxed environment. She would liaise with other professionals and your GP with your consent. She would also make appropriate referrals after discussing with you.
Dr Yousaf tries to avoid polypharmacy and spends time with patients and their families explaining her plan of treatment, the rationale for it and side effects of medications. She is committed to work with her patients to help them to return to fully functioning members of society.
Dr Yousaf is fluent in English, Urdu and Hindi.

- Follow Up Appointments- £160

This initial telephone discussion of up to 10 minutes is free of charge, and is designed to confirm that it is indeed appropriate to proceed to a full consultation and is not designed to replace a consultation.
Dr Yousaf will accept self funding patients. Payments should me made on the day of the appointment in cash, cheques or on line transfers.
Dr Yousaf would usually write to your GP with prescribing advice however can write a private prescription at your request for which there is no additional cost.
