Appointments & Fees
Assessment appointments by Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists usually last 90 minutes. The assessment involves gathering information to reach a shared understanding of the difficulties and feedback on management options. On requesting an appointment via our online booking system, the practitioner may well call you to confirm details before you meet. This initial telephone discussion of up to 10 minutes is free of charge, and is designed to confirm that it is indeed appropriate to proceed to a full consultation and is not designed to replace a consultation.
- Initial assessment meeting including the outcome/clinical letter.– £430 for 90 minute appointments or £330 if assessment can be completed in 60 minutes. Dr Mehdi reviews the referral information to determine the level of need and the required appointment duration. The rational is shared with the family before the appointment is booked.
- Follow-up consultations – £300 (approx 60 minutes) or £160 (approx 30 minutes)
Autism Assessment for Chldren and Young People
Please click HERE for full information on this multidisciplinary service. Dr Mehdi’s approach includes a extended consultion, to include the ADI-R questionnaire. This addresses the child’s early and current development with the parents, and covers over 90 questions. These are then scored up and written as a report .
This element, coupled with the ADOS assessment provided by a HoD specialist Speech and Lanaguage Therapist or Clinical Psychologist constitutes the autism diagnostic proces.
After these two elements are completed, Dr Mehdi would pull the information together including the ASCs screening report ( if applicable), ADOS report, ADI-R report and school report to write a summary report outlining how/why we came to our conclusions and giving the final diagnosis. (If there is any disagreement between reports, Dr Mehdi would consult with the pracitioners carrying out the ADOS assessment to make a final decision).
This process usually involves two ( and only occasionally three) visits to the Clinic.
It may be that after the assessment the outcome does not evidence that the child/young person meets the criteria for ASD (as is often the case).
The fee for the medical assessment is £700, including the follow up meeting. You may need to check with your insurance company to see if they will cover this fee ( if you are taking the insurance company funded route). If they will not, you yourself would be responsible in meeting the fee.
Please remember to take the Speech and Language/ Clinical Psychology costs into account when making your decision on whether to proceed.
Dr Mehdi will accept self-funding patients. Requests for specialist assessments such as specific enquiries relating to school placements or medico-legal work will incur a separate fee schedule. This can be provided upon request.
Self-funding payments should be made on the day of the appointment. Cash, cheques or direct bank transfers (Sort code: 40 07 04 and Account number: 31679724) are accepted. Please contact to discuss payment options if needed.
For patients covered by AXA-PPP, 1st appointments will require self-funding from the family however follow up meetings can be invoiced to AXA-PPP.
If a prescription is issued within an appointment then there is no additional fee.
Requests to reschedule appointments will be accommodated wherever possible.
Dr Mehdi works closely with GPs and would encourage parents to keep their GP involved when accessing input, however, this is not an obligation.
