I am a chartered clinical psychologist who specializes in working with young people and adults, as well as couples and families. I have a particular interest in depression, anxiety, self-esteem, health problems, stress-related problems, and interpersonal difficulties. My background is in systemic therapy, which emphasizes a holistic picture and focuses on how problems are being maintained and how a person’s context may be influencing the problem. I also draw on various other approaches to provide a tailor-made solution to each individual, including narrative, person centered, interpersonal, and solution-focused therapy. My aim in therapy is to quickly identify the obstacles that prevent a person from moving forward, and to implement problem-solving strategies.
I believe that the foundation of therapy is in the relationship between therapist and the client. Building a trusting relationship in which you feel understood and that you won’t be judged is the cornerstone of effective therapy. The initial consultation will provide an opportunity to discuss the difficulties you face, as well as for us to both to get a feel for whether we can work well together. I believe that individuals hold an inherent resilience, and that the goal of therapy is to create a context in which a person can discover their inner strength and resilience.

I have over 7 years of Clinical Experience, working with young people, adults, couples and families. Following my qualification, I worked in the South African Military Service, where I gained a wealth of experience. I also worked at one of the largest Medical Hospitals within South Africa, providing consultant services to in-patient wards, as well as seeing patients on an outpatient basis. I have worked with a variety of medical conditions, worked within multidisciplinary teams, and worked with psychiatric inpatients. I have also worked at the office of the Family Advocate, offering assessment and mediation services in high conflict divorce cases.
After moving to the UK, I spent almost three years working for the NHS within an adult sector for more complex cases, before moving into the private sector. This role involved seeing individuals with depression, anxiety, health related problems, work related stress, and relational difficulties, amongst other things.
My dissertation was on Child Sex Trafficking within the South African context, and involved working closely with young girls who had been trafficked. The findings of the study were that young people who had at least one close family member whom they could turn to for support dealt with the aftermath of being trafficked significantly better than those who didn’t. As such, I believe that mobilizing social support from a person’s environment can be a crucial step in working with young people in particular. This often translates into working with the parents and families of young people, and assisting parents with understanding how they can best support their child.
