About Hilary

I have been working as a Family & Systemic Psychotherapist since 2003 and specialise in work with children, adolescents and their families. I have practiced both in community and inpatient settings and believe that every child and family have the internal resources to create the positive change they desire. Family therapy is a way of identifying and harnessing these resources, through exploration, communication and the gaining of understanding and insight. Family therapy enables family members to express and explore difficult thoughts and emotions safely, understand each other’s experiences and views, and appreciate each other’s needs, build on family strengths, and work together to make useful changes in their relationship and lives.  Family therapists respect the importance of each person’s beliefs, culture and life experiences and I will adapt my approach and activities to suit the age, needs and preferences of you and your family.

I currently work for the NHS as a Lead Consultant Family & Systemic Psychotherapist. I have previously been Clinical Lead for two Child & Adolescent Mental Health teams and as a leader and highly experienced clinician have a thorough understanding of mental health difficulties and treatment protocols. I have an interest in the Arts and have researched the use of both art and music in work with families, which can be especially useful when working with children. I have been seeing individuals, couples and families in my private practice for 16 years and look forward to welcoming you to my practice in Guildford.

Please note that it is expected that all primary school children will be seen with at least one parent.  Secondary school age children who wish to receive individual therapy can be seen without a parent present.
